As Dhanush steps onto the 50th milestone of his career with the release of "Raayan," it is fitting to reflect on his extraordinary journey. Over the past 22 years, Dhanush has not only showcased his versatility as an actor but has also emerged as a history-maker, representing Indian cinema on international stages and earning various accolades.

Starting his acting career as a teenager in 2002 with "Thulluvadho Ilamai," directed by his father and written by his brother Selvaraghavan, Dhanush quickly made a mark. His second film, "Kaadhal Kondein" (2003), where he portrayed a mentally disturbed teenager, was a commercial success and established him as a promising talent in the industry.

Indeed, a cult icon!

Throughout his career, Dhanush has delivered remarkable performances in films like "Thiruda Thirudi," "Kutty," and "Polladhavan." However, it was his role in the cult gangster film "Pudhupettai" (2006), directed by Selvaraghavan, that redefined him as an artist.

Dhanush’s multifaceted contributions extend beyond acting. He made his mark as a singer with "Un Mele Aasaidhaan" from "Aayirathil Oruvan" and gained international fame with the bilingual song "Why This Kolaveri Di" from the psychological thriller "3," which became the first Indian video to gain 100 million YouTube views.

Remember when he received international recoginition?

Dhanush has adorned his career with numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards—two as an actor and two as a producer. He became the youngest actor to win the National Film Award for Best Actor for "Aadukalam" (2011), directed by Vetrimaaran.

His Bollywood debut in "Raanjhanaa" (2013), directed by Aanand L. Rai and starring opposite Sonam Kapoor, received wide acclaim and was a commercial success, grossing 94 crores worldwide.

Dhanush’s international ventures began with "The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir" (2019), followed by a significant role in "The Gray Man" (2022), where he joined an ensemble cast including Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.

One of Dhanush’s most impactful roles came in "Asuran" (2019), where he portrayed the harsh realities of casteism. The film earned several awards, including the National Award for Best Actor, and was one of ten Indian films screened at the 78th Golden Globe Awards under the Best Foreign Film category. It was also featured at the 51st International Film Festival in the Indian Panorama section.
