The 2013 Tamil crime thriller 6, directed by V. Z. Durai, captivated audiences with its gripping narrative and the remarkable performance of Shamshuddin Ibrahim, popularly known as Shaam. In the film, Shaam took on the extraordinary challenge of portraying six distinct roles, a feat that earned widespread acclaim.

His role in 6 follows a software engineer’s relentless journey across six Indian states in search of his kidnapped son. To authentically embody the transformation in each phase of the character’s journey, Shaam underwent drastic physical and emotional changes; one of which required an extreme and nearly unthinkable sacrifice.

For one particular appearance, Shaam needed to develop swelling beneath his eyes to achieve an unsettling and weary look. Rather than relying on prosthetics or makeup, he chose a method that showcased his sheer dedication: he voluntarily deprived himself of sleep for nearly a dozen nights. The result was so striking that his transformation left his own team in disbelief.
