Queen, the Tamil-language biographical web series loosely based on the life of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, will premier on Vinmeen HD (CH 231) on Saturday, February 20, at 9pm.

The 11-episode series, with each episode lasting an-hour long, is created by Reshma Ghatala, based on Anita Sukumaran's novel of the same name. It is jointly directed by famous Tamil director Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prasath Murugesan.

It stars Ramya Krishnan in the titular role as the fictional Shakti Sheshadri, a character resembling the late politician. The other cast members include Anikha Surendran and Anjana Jayaprakash, both of whom portray the younger versions of Shakti, as well as Indrajith Sukumaran, Vamsi Krishna, Lillete Dubey, and Sonia Agarwal, among others.

The series chronicles Shakti's life journey as she evolves from a student to the cinema industry, and ultimately, politics.

Queen has garnered positive reviews, especially for Ramya Krishnan's performance and the tehnical aspects of the production, since its first season was released through the streaming service MX Player on Dec 14, 2019.

The web series also won the award for the Best Series at the Singapore Asian Academy Creative Awards in December 2020.

Queen is set to get a second season, as announced by Gautham in April last year.

Catch the premier of Queen on Astro Vinmeen HD (CH 231) at Saturday, February 20, at 9pm, and subsequent episodes at the same time, every Saturday!
