Padma, a conservancy worker from Triplicane, has been honoured for her exemplary honesty after returning a pouch containing gold jewellery that she found while on duty in T Nagar, Chennai. In recognition of her integrity, the Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu Circle, released a special ‘My Stamp’ postal cover featuring her photograph.

Padma, 48, is employed with private sanitation firm Urbaser Sumeet. On January 11, while carrying out routine cleaning work in the busy T Nagar area, she noticed a pouch lying on the road. Upon opening it, she found gold ornaments weighing 45 sovereigns. Without hesitation, she informed her company officials and handed over the pouch to the Pondy Bazaar police station.

Following investigations, the police traced the jewellery to its rightful owner, Paramesh, a 46-year-old gold trader from Nanganallur, and safely returned the valuables to him.

To honour Padma’s upright conduct, a felicitation ceremony was held at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Chennai City Central Division. Padma and her husband were invited and honoured during the event, where the commemorative postal cover was officially released.

As part of the recognition, India Post Payments Bank extended several benefits to Padma, including a premium savings account, a personal accident insurance cover worth Rs 15 lakh, and the opening of a fixed deposit in her name.

Padma’s actions have drawn widespread appreciation, serving as a powerful reminder that honesty and integrity continue to shine, even in the most ordinary moments of daily life.
