K. Kaartik and his wife, N. Rekka, never anticipated that their Tamil-language videos would resonate with such a vast audience across Malaysia. Their short videos, which depict the everyday lives of Malaysians, especially those in the B40 income group, have struck a chord, amassing over 300,000 followers across social media platforms.
Through their social media handle, "Kaartik RK," the couple shares family-centred content with a casual and humourous approach. They have a strong following on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Their videos have become a staple for fans who eagerly await each upload. Remarkably, around 90% of their followers are from the Malay community.

“When we started, our videos didn’t have subtitles as they were meant for the Indian community,” Kaartik shared. “But many from other races enjoyed our content and requested subtitles to understand Tamil better. Adding subtitles helped our audience relate even more to the everyday situations we present in our videos.”
A father of five children, ranging from three to 20 years old, Kaartik, a lorry driver by profession, emphasizes that a meaningful family life is possible without luxury. “We portray the lives of husband and wife and family in a simple setup. It’s brought us closer as a family since we brainstorm ideas together,” he shared. Even their 12-year-old daughter contributes to filming and editing, gaining valuable skills along the way.

Kaartik first explored social media during Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO). Starting with 26 TikTok followers and no prior experience, he attended a social media coaching session, where his mentor noticed his potential. After his initial Tamil-language video went viral, Kaartik’s followers skyrocketed, earning him over 45,000 followers within just one week. Recognizing his knack for engaging content, his mentor encouraged him to focus on the B40 community.
Balancing his job, family, and content creation can be challenging, but with Rekka’s support and their fans' motivation, Kaartik dedicates time to producing daily videos. “Usually, we film at home after 10 PM to avoid disturbing neighbours,” he explained. “Some fans even requested we post videos every Monday to help ease the Monday blues.”
Beyond social media, Kaartik and Rekka have gained experience in video editing, graphics, and networking, with plans to establish an agency to manage local influencers in the future.
