Danesh Raj Nagarajan has created history by becoming the youngest member of Universiti Malaysia's (UM) Board of Directors.

The 26-year-old from Semenyih, Selangor, was appointed for a three year term due to his vast experience in UM's alumni and also for being involved in various programmes and student activities in the university during his course of study, reported lifestyle portal SAYS.

UM has 10 members in its board of directors and Danesh is the youngest among them.

Danesh took to Facebook to thank the university for entrusting him with the role, saying that the institution has shaped him into who he is today.

He further pledged to do his level best to ensure check and balance in the running of the board.

Danesh's appointment did not come without its controversies. Pakatan Harapan leaders recently questioned the matter in Parliament, citing his inexperience and his role as an officer to Umno lawmaker Azalina Othman Said.

Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad has had to defend his appointment in the house, stressing that he was appointed due to his active participation in alumni activities, in addition to giving the young generation a chance to lead.

Congratulations on the appointment Danesh and all the best in doing justice to the role!
