Renowned director Mani Ratnam originally planned for "Anjali" to be the sequel to his acclaimed film "Mouna Ragam." He had cast Mohan and Revathy, the lead actors from "Mouna Ragam," as the protagonists for this new venture. According to the storyline, Anjali was to be the child of the "Mouna Ragam" couple.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mohan was unable to participate in the film. As a result, Mani Ratnam cast Raghuvaran in his place.

In a recent television interview, Mohan confirmed this development and provided insight into why he ultimately did not act in "Anjali." He expressed his concerns about certain scenes involving the character of Anjali, particularly those depicting the child sleeping alone in a private room.

"As a father, I could not accept that. How can 'Anjali' sleep alone in a room? Shouldn't she stay with her mom and dad?" Mohan questioned Mani Ratnam.

Due to these creative differences and their inability to reach a consensus, Mohan decided to withdraw from the project.
