Muhammad Zahirul Hakim bin Zali, a student from Sepang, Selangor, has captured attention for his determination to pursue his higher education. On the first day university, he rode eight hours alone on his motorcycle to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in Arau, Perlis, carrying only a backpack and small of bucket of essentials.

Zahirul was enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology, specializing in Robotics and Automation Technology, at UniMAP’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Technology. Previously, he relied on buses and ETS trains, which could cost up to RM100 per trip. Using his motorcycle, he now only spends about RM 30 per trip.








As the eldest of six siblings, Zahirul wanted to reduce the financial burden of on his parents while following his dream. Although his father initially worried about the long ride, Zahirul proved to be a responsible rider, always prioritising safety and following traffic rules.

He safely arrived at UniMAP on registration day on Saturday, 27 September, where faculty staffs welcomed him warmly. Vice Chancellor Datuk Prof Ts Dr Zaliman Sauli presented him with a small gift to mark the start of his university journey.

UniMAP shared on Facebook post that Zahirul story is a powerful reminder that chasing your dreams takes courage, dedication, and sacrifice.
