In the heart of an industrial area in Malaysia, a quiet act of compassion takes place every Sunday. Maran Archunan, 47, a humble business owner, spends his day not resting or relaxing , but feeding over 80 stray dogs who now wait for him with wagging tails and trusting eyes.

What began as a response to personal heartbreak has since blossomed into a beautiful weekly ritual of love and care. “We had adopted a stray and named him Bruce Lee,” Maran recalls, his voice soft with memory. “He brought so much joy into our lives. But after just a year, he passed away in a road accident. That pain stayed with us. So, we decided to feed the strays in his name to keep his spirit alive.”

Since 2019, Maran has never missed a Sunday. He cooks around 5kg of rice and prepares five whole chickens, all from his own pocket, spending about RM150 each time, to make sure no dog goes hungry. Despite running a business and managing a packed schedule, he finds time for this act of love, week after week. “The only real challenge is time,” he shares. “But I make it work. This is important to me.”

Maran carries out this mission quietly and selflessly, without seeking donations or publicity. He’s not backed by any organisation. Just one man, his vision, and a deeply supportive wife, Abinaya Ganggunaidu, who stands beside him through every step of this journey. But for Maran, it’s not just about feeding. Over the years, he’s formed an unspoken bond with these strays. They recognise his footsteps. They trust his hands. They feel his care. “There’s a connection now. We see the same faces each week.

Some are timid, some are playful, but they know we’re here for them. Bruce Lee inspired this journey, and it's become a part of who we are.” Maran believes that anyone, no matter their background or resources, can make a difference. “You don’t have to do something big. Start in your own street. Give them food, water, a little space to rest. You’ll be surprised how even the smallest gesture can bring comfort to these animals.”

His dream is to one day expand this mission, to feed more strays, provide medical aid, and help find them safe, loving homes. But until then, every Sunday, Maran continues, driven by love, fuelled by memory, and guided by a belief that kindness needs no audience. Because to those 80 dogs, Maran is not just a man with food. He’s family. He’s hope. He’s home.

Thank you for being a gem!
