The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has officially established the 'Road to Gold' project team, aimed at strategically coordinating the nation's endeavours to achieve a gold medal at the upcoming Olympic Games. Co-chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, and YBhg. Tan Sri (Dr.) Norza Zakaria, President of the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM), this committee will navigate a comprehensive approach encompassing both the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, given less than a year timeframe to prepare for Paris.

The Road to Gold committee will collaborate with the existing Podium Program, focusing on elite athlete preparation encompassing daily training, overseas training, enhanced exposure to domestic and foreign competitions, provision of coaching services, sports science, medical services, and self-development programs. For the Paralympic Games, the gold program for athletes will continue under the Podium Program at the National Sports Council (MSN) level.

The committee is geared towards bolstering the Podium Program by providing substantial support and removing impediments for potential national medallists. All appointments are voluntary, reflecting a collective effort towards nation-building. Additionally, strategic partnerships with the corporate sector will be actively pursued to garner their involvement in this vital national initiative.

A notable inclusion in this committee is the esteemed former national athlete Datuk Nicol Ann David, serving as Deputy Chef de Mission, along with other distinguished athlete personalities like Datuk Wira (Dr.) Lee Chong Wei and hockey legend Dato' Mirnawan bin Datuk Haji Nawawi. Their extensive expertise and experience will bridge the committee with the selected Road to Gold athletes.

To ensure effective coordination and collaboration among stakeholders, Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, the Malaysian Football League Chief Executive Officer and a member of the current MSN Management Board, has been appointed as the Project Coordinator for the committee. Assisting him is Pn. Michelle Chai, bringing with them extensive international sports body and agency experience.
