A simple Grab ride to Terminal Kajang turned into a moment of unexpected kindness and responsibility, after a driver went the extra mile to ensure a woman passenger’s safety, an act that has since drawn widespread praise from netizens.
The woman, who later shared her experience on social media, recalled feeling emotionally overwhelmed during the journey. What began as casual conversation soon revealed the driver’s personal struggles and strong sense of values. He shared that driving Grab was his way of earning an honest living for his family, repeatedly emphasising, “What matters most is that I earn halal income for my wife and children.”
Throughout the ride, Raphael Kunasegaran (grab driver) repeatedly checked if she was certain about getting off at Terminal Kajang. He asked about her bus timing and appeared visibly concerned, mentioning that there had been safety incidents reported at the terminal, especially involving women travelling alone. Although the passenger stayed quiet, she admitted later that she was feeling increasingly anxious.
Upon arriving at the terminal, the driver parked his car and asked her to remain inside while he personally went to check the bus platform and confirm whether the bus was delayed. He even took a photo of her bus ticket to make sure he had the correct details, reassuring her not to move as the area could be unsafe.
After some time, he returned and informed her that the bus was on schedule, but the platform number had not yet been confirmed. He also warned her about the uncomfortable and unsafe conditions inside the terminal. Sensing her fear, he made another thoughtful decision.
The driver told her that he had noticed a group of women waiting at a different platform and offered to make a U-turn to drop her there instead, ensuring she would not be alone. Only after safely leaving her among the group did he prepare to leave.
When the woman attempted to tip him for his kindness, the driver firmly but politely refused. “I’m sincere. There’s no need for this,” he told her. Even when she insisted that it was for his children, he declined with a smile.
Her story quickly resonated with netizens, many of whom praised the driver for his empathy, integrity, and strong sense of responsibility. Commenters highlighted that his actions reflected not just professionalism, but the qualities of a caring father and husband who understood the importance of protecting others, especially vulnerable passengers.
