The tragic death of Kamaraj, the father of late small-screen and silver-screen actress VJ Chitra, has left many in shock and sorrow. Kamaraj, a retired police officer, reportedly took his own life in the very room where his daughter ended hers. This devastating loss has reignited the grief surrounding Chitra’s untimely passing in 2020.
VJ Chitra, fondly remembered for her role as Mullai in the popular serial Pandian Stores, captured the hearts of many. However, her life was tragically cut short on December 9, 2020, when she died by suicide in a star hotel in Nasarathpet, Chennai, while staying with her husband, Hemnath. Her death led to an extensive legal battle as accusations and investigations followed.
In August, a court ruling released Hemnath and six others who had been arrested in connection with her case due to insufficient evidence. This verdict, sources say, left Kamaraj deeply distressed. He struggled with the fact that those he believed responsible for his daughter's death were not held accountable.
Chitra’s mother, now reeling from yet another loss, spoke through tears about the grief that has consumed her family. “My house has become a burning bush,” she said. “He killed my daughter, and now he has taken my husband. I tried to give him strength, to convince him to move forward, but now he’s left me an orphan.”
She recalled Kamaraj’s struggles after the verdict, describing how he became withdrawn, barely eating, and consumed by sorrow. Despite her efforts to support him, his heartbreak was evident.
Chitra’s mother’s anguish echoes the pain of losing not just her daughter but now her husband, leaving her with an overwhelming sense of loneliness. “Chitra was the light of this home,” she said. “She was the baby of the house, holding us together. Now, I am all alone.”
Authorities have since sent Kamaraj’s body for autopsy and are continuing investigations. This tragedy underscores the profound emotional toll that unresolved grief and the pursuit of justice can have on a family.
