A harrowing encounter unfolded for a 32-year-old accountant in Vasai, who was followed and attacked late at night on Tungareshwar Lane. The assailant, identified as 35-year-old Sandeep Khote, a 7-foot man, had been lurking in the dark alleys of Manikpur, preying on unsuspecting victims. He confronted the woman, pinned her down, and made obscene gestures, attempting to assault her. As fear gripped the woman, an unexpected hero emerged, a stray dog.

In her statement at the Vasai police station, the survivor recounted how the stray's sudden barking startled the attacker, momentarily loosening his grip. Taking advantage of the chaos, the woman fought back, kicking the man and escaping towards Gurudwara Road. Although Khote managed to snatch her phone during the struggle, he discarded it in a drain, and the police were able to trace and apprehend him within 24 hours.
