Hulu Yam Bharu : He Stopped on a Dark Hulu Yam Road & What He Saw Still Haunts Him

Hulu Yam Bharu : He Stopped on a Dark Hulu Yam Road & What He Saw Still Haunts Him

That is the chilling memory shared by a man who spent years travelling through the Ulu Yam Forest Reserve while commuting between Batang Kali and Kuala Lumpur. What began as an ordinary late-night motorcycle ride eventually turned into an encounter, he says he still cannot explain.

According to his account, he began living in Batang Kali in 1999 and frequently travelled through the Ulu Yam route after work. As a driver, his working hours were unpredictable, and returning home late at night was not unusual.

At the time, the road was relatively quiet after 9pm, with only a handful of vehicles passing through. Despite hearing stories from friends about possible encounters with supernatural beings in the area, he said he was not particularly afraid and continued using the route because it was the most convenient way home.

Then, one night, everything felt different. After dropping off an officer at the airport, he began his journey home on his Modenas Kriss 2 motorcycle at around 12.40am. As he entered the Ulu Yam Road, light rain began to fall.

As he climbed Ulu Yam Hill, he suddenly noticed that his motorcycle felt unusually heavy. Despite twisting the throttle, the motorcycle seemed to move extremely slowly, as though he was carrying something heavy behind him. The unsettling feeling intensified when he remembered the stories his friends had told him.

He continued riding while placing his trust in God and reciting Quranic verses he remembered. After almost 10 minutes, the strange sensation eventually disappeared as he approached the top of the hill.  But that was only the beginning.

Cold and soaked from the rain, he stopped at the top of the hill to warm himself beside the motorcycle engine. As the rain began to ease, he lit a cigarette. Then he noticed something in the darkness. A strange light appeared below the hill.

From where he was standing, he could see what appeared to be a small settlement, resembling an Orang Asli village. He was surprised because he had never known there was a village on that slope. Thinking that the settlement could provide help if he ever needed it, he continued watching the lights. Suddenly, someone spoke to him from behind.

He turned around and saw an elderly man, whom he estimated to be in his 60s. The stranger spoke to him casually and invited him to his home further down the hill. The motorcyclist declined, explaining that he needed to get home because it was already late.

When he asked the elderly man what he was doing on the hill at that hour, the man reportedly replied that he was collecting water from a nearby spring. The stranger then walked down the hill, disappearing into the darkness, while the motorcyclist continued his journey home. The following day, he decided to return to the spot. This time, however, there was no village.

Where he had seen lights the night before, there was only forest. Confused, he stopped at his usual drinking spot in Batang Kali and told several locals what had happened. According to his account, the people there fell silent before one resident offered a chilling explanation: what he had seen was believed to be a “village of jinn”, and that not everyone was able to see it. He was also told stories of people who had allegedly disappeared after accepting shelter from mysterious strangers in the area.

For him, the encounter remains an unexplained experience. Even today, he says he sometimes stops at the same spot whenever he passes through Ulu Yam, not because he is searching for treasure, but because he remains curious about the mysterious place and the elderly man, he encountered that night.

Another chilling Ulu Yam story that was shared by a netizen

Another woman, who identified herself as Ain from Selangor, shared a frightening experience after visiting Ulu Yam Waterfall with her family in 2011. During the trip, she noticed a small stone beneath a large tree. For reasons she could not explain, she felt drawn to it and decided to take it home with her.

She lived in a ground-floor apartment and placed the stone behind her front door. Several weeks later, she said strange incidents began happening. One night, while sleeping alone in a dark room, she tried to turn towards the door. Instead, she suddenly felt as though something was lying directly behind her. She tried to speak but found that her voice seemed trapped. Unable to move or call out, she began reciting Quranic verses in her heart.

After several minutes, she turned again and felt that whatever had been behind her was gone. But when she slowly opened her eyes, she said she saw a figure resembling a Pocong reflected in the mirror. According to Ain, the figure appeared to have a dark face and was wrapped in a burial shroud that appeared dirty and carried a strong smell.  She closed her eyes again, desperately trying to calm herself.

But when she opened them once more, she claimed the figure was suddenly right in front of her face, with red eyes and a smile. She immediately jumped out of bed and switched on the lights. The following day, she took the stone out of her home and left it beneath a papaya tree away from her residential area. She said she told the stone that she would take it no further and asked whatever she believed was attached to it to return to its original place.

Ain described the experience as a lesson she would never forget, warning others not to casually take objects from unfamiliar places, especially when visiting areas surrounded by forest or believed by locals to have a mysterious history.
