Director Venkat Prabhu’s 2021 film Maanaadu received widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, cementing its place as a standout in the science fiction political action thriller genre. Produced by Suresh Kamatchi, the film featured Silambarasan in the lead role, with stellar performances from S. J. Suryah and Kalyani Priyadarshan.

The film’s innovative time loop theme captured the audience’s attention, but it was S. J. Suryah’s powerful performance that left a lasting impact. Interestingly, actor Arvind Swamy was originally approached for the pivotal role Suryah played.

In an interview with popular host Gopinath, Arvind Swamy shared his experience of nearly being part of Maanaadu. “I was supposed to play SJ Suryah’s character. However, due to scheduling conflicts, I asked for a month’s time. The team couldn’t afford to wait, which I completely understand and respect,” Swamy revealed. He also admitted, “I haven’t watched the movie yet because I find it difficult to see someone else in the role I was supposed to portray.”

Director Venkat Prabhu confirmed this in an interview with Times of India, saying, “Arvind Swamy sir was our first choice, but due to delays in the shoot and other commitments, he couldn’t join. I then approached SJ Suryah, who loved the character after hearing my narration. It was a proud moment for me when a director of his caliber praised my work, and he eventually came on board.”

SJ Suryah’s contribution ultimately added to the film’s success, showcasing how pivotal casting decisions can shape the outcome of a film.
