P. Vasu’s timeless classic, Chinna Thambi, released 33 years ago, continues to resonate with audiences to date. Starring Prabhu and Kushboo in the lead roles, the film was a blockbuster success, running for over 356 days in nine screens and enjoying a 100-day run in over 45 screens.

In a recent interview, Kushboo shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes story about the film:

“I wasn’t the first choice to be the female lead in P. Vasu’s film. It was director Vasu who was determined to cast me after seeing my performance in a Tamil film.”

Kushboo also admitted that she never anticipated the film would achieve such remarkable success, running successfully for 365 days.

Chinna Thambi has since become a cult classic, remade in several other languages. Notably, P. Vasu's son Shakthi made his screen debut in this film as a child actor, playing the younger version of Chinna Thambi (Prabhu).

Kushboo's career took off after Chinna Thambi, and she made history by becoming the first actor to have a temple built in her name, though it was later demolished following her comments about premarital sex. She paved the way for many women actors from North India, such as Nagma, Jyothika, and Simran, to win the hearts of South Indian audiences.
