Did you know that Jayachandran’s voice graced A.R. Rahman’s very first composition?
In 1975, a 9-year-old Rahman composed “Velli Then Kinnam Pol” for the Malayalam film Penpada. Though orchestrated by R.K. Shekhar, the tune belonged to Rahman. In 2008, Jayachandran made his debut in Hindi playback singing with ADA: A Way of Life, alongside Alka Yagnik, with music once again composed by A.R. Rahman. His versatility and emotive voice transcended languages and genres, captivating audiences across India.
Jayachandran’s musical journey in films began with his first recorded song, “Oru Mullappoo Malayumayi,” in 1965 for Kunjali Marakkar. However, it was “Manjalayil Mungithorthi” from Kalithozhan that truly marked the start of his illustrious career. From that point, he went on to deliver countless unforgettable songs that became anthems for Malayalis and music lovers across India.
