Kalairani, a renowned figure in the theatre world and fondly remembered for her iconic motherly roles in films like Mudhalvan and Dum Dum Dum, has left an indelible mark on Tamil cinema. With a career spanning numerous films, she’s widely regarded for her on-screen presence. However, there’s an untold side to this talented artist that few know about.

A graduate of the prestigious Chennai Film Institute and a long-time member of the acclaimed Koothu-P-Pattarai theatre group, Kalairani’s experience goes beyond acting, she has been instrumental in nurturing and training newcomers in the industry. Despite her vast contribution, she recently shared in an interview some surprising revelations, including how she has faced a lack of acting offers due to being labeled as an "over-actor."

Reflecting on her time in the industry, Kalairani recounted her unique experience with director Mani Ratnam. "Mani Ratnam sir personally called me to train Gautham Karthik and Thulasi for Kadal. From basic exercises to actual scene work, he entrusted me with their preparation and even shared the script with me, a rare move for a Mani Ratnam film. I also worked with Thulasi on Yaan after her mother, actress Radha, requested me to provide her with extensive acting guidance. Even Lakshman, during the shoot of Jeeva, was one of my students."
