At just 23 years old, G. Kishendran has turned a long-cherished dream into reality – bringing his parents onto the convocation stage as he graduated with flying colours from Merlimau Polytechnic, Melaka (PMM).

The Diploma in Accountancy graduate didn’t just finish his studies; he maintained a perfect 4.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (HPNM) for six consecutive semesters. His remarkable achievement earned him the prestigious Director's Award as well as the Academic and Co-Curricular Excellence Award at PMM’s 23rd Convocation Ceremony.

For Kishendran, this moment carried even deeper meaning. Five years ago, after scoring 8As in his SPM, he was unable to share the joy of his success with his parents on stage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That unfulfilled wish became the fire that pushed him to excel at PMM, determined to give his lorry driver father and catering trader mother the moment they truly deserved.

“I feel very happy and grateful for this success. It is the result of my parents’ prayers and sacrifices. They worked tirelessly to ensure we had enough for our education,” Kishendran shared, his voice filled with emotion.

The third of six siblings from Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur, Kishendran admitted there were moments when he felt like giving up. But his parents’ encouragement, the guidance of his lecturers, and the support of his friends kept him moving forward.

Behind his success was an iron discipline. Rising as early as 4am to complete assignments, he learned to balance academics with an active role in various polytechnic programmes. His hard work was reflected in his outstanding Merit KITA score of 88.75%, a holistic assessment of academic, leadership, co-curricular, and personal qualities.

Today, Kishendran works as an Administrative and Accounts Executive at a private firm, while waiting for the outcome of his application to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) or Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

For him, this milestone is not just about academic excellence, but about honouring the unwavering sacrifices of his parents, M. Gunasegaran, 50, and G. Amartham, 48.
