When Coolie promotions were in full swing, Aamir Khan surprised fans by revealing that he would be teaming up with Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj for a full-fledged Hindi film. This was in addition to his cameo appearance in Coolie, which marked his first step into Tamil cinema. The idea of Aamir working with Lokesh who has built a cult following with his action-packed universe, generated a huge buzz, as it would also be Lokesh’s Bollywood debut.
But after Coolie hit the screens, talk began to spread that the Aamir–Lokesh project may no longer be happening. While Aamir had previously mentioned the film would only take off after Lokesh wrapped up Kaithi 2 with Karthi, it seems the sequel itself has run into roadblocks. Lokesh’s paycheck reportedly shot past Rs. 50 crore after Coolie, making it difficult for SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior Pictures to bring him on board. With these complications, Kaithi 2, a key piece in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, now faces the risk of being shelved.
With both Kaithi 2 and the much-anticipated superhero film with Aamir Khan hanging in limbo, fans turned their attention to another exciting rumor: a film that would reunite Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan after decades. However, Rajinikanth recently put the speculation to rest, confirming that while both he and Kamal want to work together, nothing has been finalized yet.
“I’m doing a movie next with Raaj Kamal Films and Red Giant Movies, but the director hasn’t been fixed. Kamal and I both want to act together, but we need the right story and characters. If we find that, we’ll do it. For now, there are no set plans,” Rajinikanth told the media on September 17, 2025.
Interestingly, the superhero script that Lokesh was supposed to direct for Aamir had once been narrated to Rajinikanth. At the time, however, the Tamil superstar wasn’t ready to commit to such a massive project. Before Aamir and Rajinikanth, the same story had even been linked to Suriya under the title Irumbukai Maayavi.
