A story that recently went viral on social media serves as a sobering reminder of life’s unpredictability. Shared by an employer on LinkedIn a few years ago, the incident highlights how fleeting and fragile life can be.
That one incident that shook an employer
The employer recounted a heartbreaking experience with his employee, Mr. Sunil, who had been part of the organization for four years. On the morning of December 5, 2020, at 8:36 AM, Mr. Sunil sent a message requesting leave due to severe back pain. His message read:
"Sir, due to heavy back pain I am unable to come today. So please grant me leave today."
The employer, seeing this as a routine leave request, responded promptly:
"Ok, take rest."
Just 90 minutes later, at 10:00 AM, the employer received an unexpected call that changed everything. The caller informed him that Mr. Sunil had passed away due to a sudden cardiac arrest.
"I couldn’t believe it," the employer shared. "I rushed to check his employee file for his address, trembling as I drove to his house. When I arrived, the reality struck me...he was gone."
Mr. Sunil was just 39 years old, fit, and seemingly healthy. What struck the employer the most was the timeline: just nine minutes after sending his leave request, Mr. Sunil had breathed his last.
This incident left the employer shaken, and it serves as a powerful reminder for all of us:
- Life is unpredictable.- Be kind to the people around you.
- Live your life fully and cherish every moment.
Positions are temporary. Rank and titles are limited. But the way you treat people will always be remembered. In the end, it is not the positions we hold or the achievements we accumulate that define us but it's the kindness and humanity we show to others.
