Reflecting on his musical journey, Ramu recalls the turning point in his career:
"My music career took off when I participated in the legendary SP Balasubrahmanyam sir’s ‘Paadutha Theeyaga’ show on ETV in 1996. That experience changed my life, and I later moved from my hometown in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, to Chennai to pursue my passion and become a professional singer," he shared in an interview with Lotus Times at his residence in Saligramam, Chennai, on September 26, 2019.
Over the years, Ramu has been fondly recognized as the ‘SPB Specialist’ due to his striking resemblance to SP Balasubrahmanyam’s voice. However, his versatility extends beyond that, as he has performed alongside legendary singers like P. Susheela, Mano, K.J. Yesudas, S. Janaki, and K.S. Chithra.
"God has blessed me with the opportunity to sing over 5,000 devotional songs at various events. I have also recorded private devotional albums. My heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported, encouraged, and motivated me throughout my singing career," Ramu says.
Ramu’s talent has been recognized with multiple accolades, including the prestigious ‘Nandi Award’ from the Andhra Pradesh government, not once, but twice. One of his most cherished moments was receiving an award from the hands of Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu at a function organized by the All India Telugu Federation.
While the music industry still mourns the loss of SP Balasubrahmanyam, hearing Ramu’s voice brings comfort and nostalgia to many.
