For the first time in Malaysian history, fans will be treated to a magnificent Tamil Orchestral Concert, led by the one and only Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. This grand spectacle will feature a 70-piece orchestra comprising elite musicians from Budapest, Hungary, and Chennai, India. It promises to be a harmonious blend of symphonic brilliance and timeless Tamil melodies, setting an unprecedented standard in musical excellence.

With a career spanning nearly five decades, laiyaraaja has composed over 7,000 songs and scored music for more than 1,000 films. His extraordinary achievements include being the first Asian to record a symphony with the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London. This concert serves as a monumental tribute to his legacy, celebrating his music on a scale like never before.

The press conference for Raaja Rhapsody: Maestro Live in Concert concluded successfully on February 10, 2025, at TSR Exhibition Hall, drawing nearly 800 attendees, including media representatives, dignitaries, and ardent fans of the Maestro.

Sharing his excitement, Ilaiyaraaja stated:

“For the first time, fans will witness an orchestral concert unlike anything before. The orchestra will feature elite musicians from Chennai and Budapest, Hungary.”

He further captivated hearts by declaring, “Malaysian fans are my favourite,” electrifying the atmosphere with anticipation.

Joining Ilaiyaraaja on stage will be some of the most renowned playback singers, including Karthik, SPB Charan, Yugendran Vasudevan, Mathu Balakrishnan, and many more. Expect to be mesmerized by evergreen classics such as:

- “Poovar Sennin Mannan” from Thiruvasagam, originally recorded in Hungary with the Budapest orchestra.

- “Rakkamma” from Thalapathy, which has been celebrated as one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

- A special track from the classic cult film Hey Ram, which was uniquely re-recorded based solely on scenes from the fully shot and edited film; a fascinating yet little-known fact.

This concert will also honour the enduring legacies of three late legends:

- Padma Vibhushan SP Balasubramaniam
- Padma Bhushan Captain Vijayakanth
- Panju Arunasalam, the visionary director who introduced Ilaiyaraaja to the film industry through Annakili.
