A 45-year-old man in Indonesia allegedly killed his 60-year-old neighboUr after becoming annoyed by the latter’s persistent questioning about his marital status. The incident took place in South Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, on July 29, as reported by Indonesian media.
The victim, Asgim Irianto, a retired civil servant, was attacked by Parlindungan Siregar, according to Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Maria Marpaung on July 31. The attacker arrived at Mr. Asgim's home around 8 PM wielding a piece of wood and began assaulting him without warning.
Mr. Asgim fled to the street but was pursued by Parlindungan, who struck him on the head and continued the assault after he fell. Local residents intervened and rushed Mr. Asgim to the hospital, but he died en route, stated AKP Maria.
The police arrested Parlindungan within an hour of the attack. During questioning, Parlindungan admitted he was determined to beat Mr. Asgim to death because he was hurt by the frequent teasing about his unmarried status. Additionally, the neighbors had previous arguments over their chickens straying into each other's coops.
