McDonald's Malaysia continues to strengthen its commitment to local communities by organizing its Community Month this October. Community Month is one of the initiatives under the McDonald's and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Community Programme which aims to create a positive impact within the communities in which McDonald's operates.

“Program Komuniti McDonald’s & RMHC” is an umbrella programme for all community activities carried out throughout the year by McDonald's Malaysia, including the implementation of its Community Month which focuses mainly on underprivileged children. As the quick service restaurant specializes in organising children’s parties, McDonald’s Malaysia took to organising birthday parties to celebrate less fortunate children.

McDonald's Malaysia Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, emphasised the significant role of “Program Komuniti McDonald’s & RMHC” in organising various community-driven initiatives throughout the year. He said, the central focus during 'Community Month' every October remains on underprivileged children. Throughout this month, McDonald's Malaysia is organising birthday celebrations for some 12,000 children at 400 orphanages and children welfare homes nationwide, aiming to bring joy and create cherished memories for less fortunate children.

This initiative represents McDonald's Malaysia's commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates. Dato’ Azmir said that this initiative is McDonald’s Malaysia’s way of contributing back to the community, which has always supported the quick service restaurant.

Beginning in 2017, McDonald's Malaysia’s 'Community Month' has become an annual event packed with engaging and exciting activities for underprivileged children. With the gradually improving Covid-19 pandemic situation in 2021, McDonald's Malaysia shifted its approach and began taking birthday celebrations out to orphanages, allowing for more focused and high-impact activities for the children.

Dato' Azmir expressed the profound significance of a birthday celebration in an individual's life. He underlined the sheer delight witnessed on the faces of the orphans during these McDonald’s Community Month birthday party events, serving as a compelling motivation to sustain and expand this initiative.

Throughout this October, McDonald's Malaysia is committed to organising birthday celebrations involving over 12,000 orphans from 400 orphanage homes across the nation. The company has allocated RM300,000 for this initiative.

The birthday celebration which was held recently at Yayasan An-Nur Maisarah in Chemor, Perak was one of the first parties this year that marked the start of McDonald's Community Month. More parties just like this will be held throughout October either at the orphanage home or in nearby McDonald’s restaurants.

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) also extended its support by generously providing 'Back to School Packs' to the orphans. A total of 90 Back to School Packs were presented to the orphans at An-Nur Maisarah Foundation.

Expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for this collaboration, Dr. Fazillah Nordin, Chairman of the Trustee and Director of the An-Nur Maisarah Foundation, said she was thrilled that McDonald’s Malaysia chose Yayasan An-Nur Maisarah for one of its Community Month birthday parties this year.

According to her, the festivities included several large cakes, colourful decorations and exciting games which put big smiles on the kids’ faces. She added that the Back to School Packs from RMHC will also make the children more enthusiastic to go to school with new school equipment.

Community Month is one of the most important and largest community initiatives implemented by McDonald's Malaysia. The month draws to a close with McDonald’s Malaysia’s inaugural 'Karnival Famili Mekdi,' an open event for the public. Several selected children's welfare homes have also been invited to join in the festivities. The carnival takes place later this month at various locations including the McDonald's Putrajaya compound on 28-29 October, Penang Auto City on November 4-5, and Mutiara Rini, Johor Bahru on November 10-11.
