How many of you guys remember the huge feat that achieved by Ts. Dr. Reena Sri Selvarajan?

The young lass who represented Malaysia at the prestigious Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) was one of over 350 young scientists from 29 countries who attended the summit, which featured 21 plenary lectures and four-panel discussions. Among the speakers were 21 Nobel laureates, including Prof. Brian Kobilka and Prof. John Mather.

The summit, which took place at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), aimed to provide a platform for young scientists to exchange ideas, network, and engage in discussions about cutting-edge research.

Being a lecturer at Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), Reena had the opportunity to participate in a range of lectures and discussions on various scientific topics presented by some of the most distinguished scientists in their fields, including Nobel laureates Prof. Brian Kobilka and Prof. John Mather.

"When one door closes, another one opens."

A phrase that has always resonated with Dr. Reena, especially when it comes to her career.

“When I was younger, I had my heart set on becoming a doctor. However, despite having an excellent academic record, I was unable to obtain the scholarship I had hoped for to study medicine. So, I decided to accept an engineering course offered by a public university. I graduated with first-class honours and enrolled in a Ph.D. programme. And now, I am proud to be lecturing at the School of Engineering of the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation,” said Dr. Reena.

As an expert in microfabrication and nanoelectronics, with a specific focus on biosensors and MEMS technology, Reena's attendance at the summit allowed her to deepen her knowledge and skills in her area of expertise. Moreover, her representation of Malaysia at the summit highlights her dedication and contribution to her field of research.

With that Reena’s attendance at the prestigious summit had a significant impact on her perspectives and research direction. Having the opportunity to engage with participants at the top research institutes worldwide, has broadened her understanding of the latest trends and advances in her field, inspiring her to step up her game in both academic and research domains.

Needless to say, much of our inspiration lies from the charisma and values instilled by a gem such as Dr. Reena Sri. Thank you for inspiring me and being an inspiration to the rest of the young teens out there.
