"In every real man a child is hidden that wants to play," goes a quote by German philosopher and poet, Friedrich Nietzsche.

Although this saying alone may knot justify a grown up man not behaving his age, one can probably point to a study by the Oxford University that says that men do not mature until they are over 40!

The research examined the brain of 121 participants between the ages of 4 and 40 through brain imaging, and tracked the changes in different functions while considering the age and gender of the sample group.

It was aimed at discovering which features transform during maturation and which one remains the same, and the results shows that although the brains of both men and women develop the same capabilities to operate in daily life, men often showed a delay in the prolonged development of functional networks, compared to the fairer sex.

While women lead the men in this aspect, their brains, however, show a more premature deterioriation of these networks.

A separate study by a Mexican scientist has also shown that while men's brains are larger than women's, those of the latter were more efficient.

For instance, women have better memory, more neutral connections, and a detailed perception of colour and flavour.

Bear this in mind if you are a man, and the next time someone tells you to "grow up", point to these studies, because, hey, science never lies!
