It is with great honour that we curate this piece of news with the selection of our esteemed national No. 1 squash player, S. Sivasangari, as the flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the national contingent at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in China.

This prestigious event is scheduled to take place from September 23rd to October 8th. Alongside Sivasangari, the accomplished track cyclist, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom will be joining the athlete as well.

Notably, Sivasangari was previously chosen to carry the Jalur Gemilang at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Unfortunately, her participation was thwarted by a road accident in June of the preceding year.

Malaysia's participation in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games encompasses 22 out of the 40 sports slated for competition, ranging from diving, badminton, and cycling to equestrian, gymnastics, and hockey, among others. These sports underline our nation's commitment to excellence in diverse athletic disciplines, showcasing our broad spectrum of talent and dedication.

In an exclusive video message from her current competition base in Qatar, Sivasangari, our esteemed representative, expressed the profound honour of carrying the Jalur Gemilang. She articulated her belief that this prestigious role could serve as a source of inspiration, driving her to excel and bring glory to Malaysia by clinching a medal in the forthcoming Games.

Having said that, in 2018 - Sivasangari made history by becoming the youngest national champion at 19. From emerging to the top 30 in the World Rankings for the first time in the summer of 2021, the young lass has definitely beam us with pride.

Sivasangari became the third Malaysian ever to win the Australian Open title since the tournament inception in 1979, a feat which has been done by former world number one (national squash queen) Datuk Nicol David and Low Wee Wern.
