Tamil cinema has long been known for its iconic rivalries, not just among male actors but also among leading female stars. One of the most talked-about rivalries in the industry was between Trisha and Nayanthara, a subject that dominated headlines during its time.

In an interview with Vijay TV in the late 2000s, Nayanthara addressed the widely speculated rivalry with Trisha. She clarified that her reserved nature and reluctance to give frequent interviews may have led to misconceptions about her personality.

“I don’t give many interviews, which some may misinterpret as arrogance,” she explained. “I believe in speaking only when there is something meaningful to say.”

Nayanthara also spoke about her interactions with other female co-stars, including Namitha, with whom she shared screen space in Billa. She recalled that their relationship initially seemed amicable but later turned cold.

“For the first few days, we spoke normally. Then, one day, she suddenly stopped communicating with me. Even in group settings, she would greet everyone except me,” Nayanthara revealed. “There was no argument or conflict, but when something like that happens, you notice it. If someone has an issue, it’s their issue.”

When asked specifically about her relationship with Trisha and Shriya Saran, Nayanthara responded thoughtfully.

“‘Friend’ is a strong word and not one to be used lightly. Trisha and I are not friends; we are acquaintances. There are perceived tensions between us, reinforcing the stereotype that women don’t get along. But honestly, I have no issues with her or anyone else.”

Despite the speculated rivalry, both Trisha and Nayanthara have been continuously giving the best on their screen space.
