In a recent video shared by TikTok user @thejokercho, he recounts an incident where he was detained at a shopping centre in Klang, Selangor for not carrying his identity card when he was 16 years old.

Despite having a temporary IC in the form of a piece of paper, which he kept at home to avoid damage, he found himself detained by police during an inspection at the location.

The man explained in the TikTok video that he was handcuffed after the police asked for his IC, which he didn't have on him. While his friend, who had his IC, was let go, the man was taken to lockup for four days before facing trial. He told the judge he would always carry his IC and received a one-day jail sentence. However, he learned that "one day jail" typically means staying at the court until 4 PM and then being released.

Alongside a group of foreigners, he was taken to the police station and subsequently held in lockup for four days before facing trial and being sentenced to one day in jail. Following his release, he described the traditional practice of being bathed in lemon water by family members and discarding the clothes worn during lockup.

Also, the TikTok user emphasized the importance of carrying an IC at all times to avoid similar consequences.

The video has garnered significant attention, accumulating 722.6K total views as of the latest update. Former Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani highlighted that failure to present identification documents when examined by police constitutes an offense, punishable by imprisonment, a fine, or both, as stipulated in Regulation 25(1)(n) PPPN 1990.
