Indeed, good news to all the Indian students!
The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has allocated RM25 million in 2024 under the MITRA IPT Admission Assistance Program (IPT 4.0) to support 12,400 Indian B40 students. According to MITRA Chairman and Batu MP P. Prabakaran, the initiative has received 12,626 applications from Indian students nationwide, with the screening process currently underway.
In the first phase of the program, 1,088 eligible students will receive financial assistance beginning next week. Each recipient will be awarded a one-time payment of RM2,000, with students with disabilities (OKU) receiving RM3,000. The disbursement will be conducted through Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).
“It is MITRA’s responsibility to ensure this financial assistance reaches those who truly deserve it. During the screening process, some applications were found to have incomplete or unauthentic documents, which raised concerns,” Prabakaran stated.
He also noted challenges in the application process, including missing BSN account details, lack of proof for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), eKasih, or Mysalam, incomplete or unverified payslips, and missing university confirmation letters. MITRA is actively cross-checking data with higher education institutions (IPTs) and verifying the B40 status of applicants to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Prabakaran assured that financial assistance for the 2024 IPT students will be disbursed in stages, starting December 2024, and will continue until the process is completed. The list of eligible students for subsequent phases will be announced gradually through MITRA’s social media platforms.
MITRA also highlighted its Special Full and Partial Scholarship Sponsorship Programme for Medical Studies, introduced to support medical students from the Indian B40 community. However, Prabakaran expressed disappointment at the low number of applications received for this program, which was announced last week.
“With just one day left before the deadline (December 17, 2024), only 30 applications have been submitted. This initiative is a significant opportunity for students aspiring to pursue medicine, and I strongly urge eligible Indian students to apply before the deadline,” he said.
The medical scholarship program, a joint effort between MITRA and Perdana University, is open to science stream students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 and above who have completed the Matriculation Programme or Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) in the 2023/2024 academic year.
Prabakaran emphasized that the program aims to empower students from underserved communities by supporting their educational ambitions in the medical field.
