Police have clarified that the car crash at the Arulmigusamayapura Mariamman Temple in Tanjung Rambutan, which went viral on social media, was caused by hypoglycemia, not drunk driving.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris stated that the driver, a 41-year-old local man, suffered a hypoglycemic episode due to diabetes, leading to a sudden loss of consciousness. The incident occurred while the driver was traveling from the Tanjung Rambutan health clinic towards Changkat Kinding. After passing a traffic light, he lost control of his SUV and crashed into the temple grounds, striking a temple pillar.

Azizi emphasized that the social media reports suggesting the driver was under the influence of alcohol were inaccurate. The Ipoh district police received a report about the incident at 8:36 AM yesterday, and preliminary investigations confirmed the cause as hypoglycemia.

Police are urging the public to avoid spreading false information regarding the incident.
