Indian celebrities are flocking to social media to voice their outrage over a shocking case of serial sexual assault and blackmail by a gang of four men.

According to reports in The Hindu, police investigations show that the gang would sexually harass and assault women, and record the incidents. The gang would then use those recordings to blackmail their victims.

The quartet, all in their 20s, have allegedly attacked between 20 to 50 women across Tamil Nadu.

In comments given to The Indian Express, a police officer close to the investigation said the gang used fake Facebook accounts, and purported to be women. Striking up conversation with their victims, they would ask questions on lesbianism and other sexual topics.

After engaging their victims in sex chats, the men would reveal their identities and coerce their victims into meeting in person. The police officer said the gang's victims include school and college teachers, doctors, senior secondary and college students.

The group's actions were only brought to light when one of their victims, a 19-year-old girl, lodged a police report, which led to authorities discovering the gang's previous crimes.

Some politicians have also waded into the issue, by claiming that the gang has been getting away due to their political connections. The shocking case has caused many celebrities to take to social media with their thoughts on the case.
