Pongal Recipes That Are A Must Try This Festive Season

Pongal is incomplete without its extensive range of traditional delicacies. As the celebrations get started, the occasion is celebrated with great fervor and special meals are prepared for the occasion.

Planning to prepare a traditional feast this Pongal? 

Then, try these simple yet delicious recipes at home by following these simple instructions that have been carefully chosen for each item.

1. Ven Pongal 
  • ½ cup rice
  • ¼ cup moong dal
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ⅛ teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1  teaspoon ginger chopped
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 10 to 12 cashews
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons Ghee

2. Sakkarai Pongal
  • ½ cup rice
  • ⅓ cup moong dal
  • 4 cups water
  • ½ cup jaggery chopped
  • 1 pinch of edible camphor
  • 5 green cardamoms
  • 1 clove
  • 5 tablespoons Ghee
  • 20 cashews
  • 1 tablespoon golden raisins

3. Kalkandu Pongal 
  • 1/2 cup raw rice
  • 2 tbsp moong dal
  • 1/2 cup kalkandu sugar candy
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 and 1/2 cups water
  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 2 tbsp cashews broken

4. Karupatti Pongal 
  • 1/3 cup raw rice
  • 1/8 cup moong dal
  • 2 cups water
  • a pinch cardamom powder
  • 10 to 15 nos cashews
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp raisins
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • For palm jaggery syrup:
  • 1/2 cup palm jaggery
  • 1/4 cup water

5. KARUMBU CHAARU
  • 1/4 cup raw rice
  • 1/8 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugarcane juice
  • 1/8 cup sugar candy
  • 2 tbsp ghee melted
