Directed by Rajiv Menon, the film brought together a powerhouse cast featuring Mammootty, Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, Ajith Kumar, and Abbas, leaving audiences captivated even after two decades.

Recently, director Rajiv Menon shared some fascinating insights into the film’s casting choices and behind-the-scenes decisions. One of his most genius moves was pairing Ajith Kumar with Tabu, who played the poised and mature elder sister, Sowmya. Her character carried the burden of financial struggles and family responsibilities, while Ajith brought charm, vulnerability, and quiet strength to his role.

Their on-screen chemistry became one of the film’s highlights subtle, soulful, and deeply moving. The iconic song “Enna Solla Pogirai” captured this dynamic perfectly, even though the video itself had little to do with the film’s plot. Tabu wandering through vast deserts while Ajith is kept away from her created a wistful, almost poetic metaphor for their restrained love, a visual that still resonates with fans today.

Rajiv also revealed that Raghuvaran’s character added a layer of tension between Ajith and Tabu’s relationship, making their emotional journey even more compelling.
