Roadblocks After Dark: Police And Drivers Share The Strange Encounters That Still Give Them Goosebumps

For police and JPJ officers, setting up a roadblock is part of the job. For motorists, however, a roadblock usually means one of two things, a routine inspection or the dreaded possibility of receiving a summons.

But according to several stories shared online, not every roadblock experience is quite so ordinary.

A recent question on Threads has opened the door to a collection of strange and unsettling stories involving police officers, motorists and mysterious encounters during roadblocks.

The conversation began when a Threads user, @abang_dee7, asked police and JPJ personnel about the strangest or scariest things they had experienced while on roadblock duty.

“I want to ask the police and JPJ brothers. What are the strange or scary things when setting up roadblocks?” he asked, while also sharing an unusual experience of his own.

 According to him, police once stopped him because they believed there was a passenger in his car who was not wearing a seatbelt. The strange part?

He was the only person in the vehicle. That was enough to get other users talking, with several sharing stories of their own. One particularly eerie account involved a group of police officers conducting a roadblock near Teknik Jengka. According to a user recounting his father's friend's experience, the officers heard the unmistakable sound of an RXZ motorcycle approaching at high speed from the direction of Bukit Gajah.

Everyone reportedly expected the rider to reach the roadblock and be stopped. But when the motorcycle supposedly reached the area, there was no rider to be seen. The officers apparently remained quiet and allowed it to pass. Then, a few minutes later, they heard the same motorcycle again. And again. By the fourth time, the officers reportedly decided they had enough and packed up the roadblock before leaving the area.

Whether there was a natural explanation for the sound or something more unusual, the story certainly left readers wondering.

“There's someone else in your car”

Another recurring theme in the stories was police officers telling drivers that they had seen someone else inside their vehicles. One user claimed that police stopped them because officers believed there were other people in the car. The driver was alone.

In another account, a motorist said officers insisted they had seen people inside the vehicle. It was only after taking a closer look that they realised what they had seen was not actually a person.

Stories like these have understandably fuelled plenty of speculation online. Among the responses was also one from a police officer, who said that unusual experiences were more commonly encountered during patrols rather than roadblocks. The officer specifically advised motorists to remain alert when travelling along certain stretches of road, including the area from Pagoh R&R heading south towards Yong Peng, as well as the Machap to Senai stretch.

The officer's comments were shared as a personal warning to motorists travelling through those areas. Another story involved a group of police officers allegedly setting up a roadblock along Jalan Felda Taib Andak in Pontian. According to the account, the officers believed they had encountered something frightening and eventually left the location.

Their tents and traffic cones were reportedly left behind. The story has since become one of several unsettling accounts circulating online about strange encounters experienced while working late-night roadblocks.

Fact or something more mysterious?

Of course, these are personal accounts shared by officers and members of the public, and there is no independent confirmation that the incidents involved anything supernatural. But perhaps that is what makes these stories so intriguing. For most people, a roadblock is simply a checkpoint on the way home. For officers working through the night, however, the long hours, quiet roads and unexpected encounters can sometimes create experiences that stay with them for years.

And if these stories are anything to go by, the next time you drive past a quiet roadblock late at night, you might just find yourself looking twice at the empty passenger seat.
