Renowned singer Kalpana Raghavender, who was hospitalised after an overdose of sleeping pills, has regained consciousness and is now in stable condition. Doctors have confirmed that she is out of danger.

According to her statement to the police, the incident followed an argument with her daughter, Daya Prasad Prabhakar, on March 3. Kalpana had reportedly advised her daughter to continue her studies in Hyderabad, a suggestion that Daya declined. The following day, March 4, Kalpana returned home from Ernakulam, reaching Hyderabad at 1:40 PM.

Struggling with severe insomnia, she initially took eight sleeping pills. However, when sleep remained elusive, she consumed an additional ten pills, leading to a loss of consciousness.

“I don’t know what happened next. This was not a suicide attempt,” Kalpana clarified to the KPHB police.

Dismissing speculation, her daughter, Daya Prasad, emphasized that the incident was an accidental overdose, not a suicide attempt.

“My mother is a singer and is also pursuing an LLB and PhD simultaneously, which has led to chronic insomnia,” she explained. “She was on prescribed medication for her condition and unintentionally consumed an excessive dose.”

Concerned when Kalpana did not respond to calls, her husband alerted the apartment welfare committee. With the assistance of the police, the door was forced open, and she was rushed to the hospital. Medical professionals promptly administered treatment, and later confirmed that she was stable and recovering well.
