The auspicious day commemorating the birth of Goddess Sita from the earth in the month of Panguni falls this year on Monday, March 24. Goddess Sita, revered as the epitome of patience, devotion, sacrifice, modesty, and motherhood, is believed to have been born to Mother Bhoom Devi.

Observing the Sita Devi Viratham on this sacred day is considered highly beneficial for married women seeking unity and harmony with their husbands and unmarried women aspiring to find a kind, virtuous, and noble life partner akin to Lord Rama. It is believed that sincere worship of Goddess Sita fosters understanding and strengthens unity between husband and wife, while also granting blessings to those seeking an ideal marriage.


How to observe Sita Devi viratham?


1. Preparation for this auspicious day

- Wake up early, take a bath, and thoroughly prepare the puja room.

- Place a picture of Sita with Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Lakshman on a floor decorated with turmeric.

- Prepare a Tulasi (Holy Basil) garland and use it to adorn the image.

2. Offerings (Neivedyam)

- Prepare a mixture of paneer with sandalwood and place it in a pot with kumkumam.

- Cook sweet sugar pongal and offer it on a banana leaf.

- Additional offerings may include chickpeas, plantains, watercress, tender coconut (ilaneer), payasam, curd rice, milk, and fruits. Devotees may prepare whatever is feasible for them.

- Two lamps should be placed and lit with kerosene or ghee to signify devotion and light.

3. Rituals of poojai

- Chant the Sahasranama of Sita Devi and perform the Archana 108 times using fragrant flowers.

- Recite the story of Sita Rama or chant the mantra “Shri Rama Jayam” 108 times.

- In the evening, visit a Hanuman temple and offer prayers.

- Worship Lord Rama and Goddess Sita at a Rama temple, offering a Tulsi garland and performing Mahabhishekam before seeking blessings.

- Listening to the stories of Sitarama narrated at the temple is also encouraged as part of the observance.
