Sivakarthikeyan’s portrayal of Major Mukund Varadarajan in the biographical war flick, Amaran has earned widespread praise. However, the actor credits his late father, G. Doss, as the main inspiration behind his commitment to the role and project. During the film’s success event, Sivakarthikeyan shared memories of profound moments following his father’s passing, which continue to shape his life and career.
For those unfamiliar, SK’s father, G. Doss, was a respected police officer and jail superintendent who passed away when the actor was in his teens. Recalling his father with deep admiration, Sivakarthikeyan expressed how he viewed his father as a hero and how his memory profoundly influenced his portrayal of Major Mukund.
Reflecting on the impact of his father’s absence over the past 21 years, Sivakarthikeyan said:
“My father was an honest officer, respected by everyone. He is my greatest reason for doing this film. For the past 21 years, I have been living with his memories, and Amaran gave me a chance to be him, to see him through my role. He is my first hero. I remember polishing his shoes, helping with his uniform, and placing his badge. I wanted to bring his spirit to Amaran. In many ways, I saw similarities between Appa and Major Mukund.”
The actor then recounted the life-altering day he lost his father and the profound changes that followed. He shared how, at 17, he received a call at 8 AM from his father, who told him he was coming home on a short leave. But that very evening, Sivakarthikeyan returned home to the devastating news of his father’s passing. He recalled the painful scene of seeing his father in an ambulance, feeling utterly heartbroken.
“I was once a confident teenager because I knew Appa was there for me. But everything changed that day. Seeing him in that icebox, and later, completing his last rites, it shattered me. When the rituals were done, I realized all that remained were his bones. The 17-year-old Sivakarthikeyan was broken that day,” he shared, voice heavy with emotion.
Sivakarthikeyan on taking up Amaran
"When I first heard the story, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between my father and Mukund Sir. It was a big reason for me to join this project. My father, like Major Mukund Varadarajan, also passed away while on duty, not because of war, but due to 8job related pressure. And seeing Indhu and her daughter reminded me of my mother and sister. Losing a loved one is never easy, but watching Indhu Rebecca Varghese stand strong despite the tragedy gave us all hope. I can’t wait to show this film to my mother and sister."
Now, with Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan brings to life the inspiring journey of another real-life hero, Major Mukund, a role he dedicated to his father’s memory.
