A school bus driver from Simpang Renggam, Kluang, was detained early this morning after uploading a video and posting a photo of a student he was transporting.

Johor Police Chief CP M Kumar confirmed that the 24-year-old local man was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 2:57 AM. The police also confiscated a mobile phone believed to have been used in the incident for further investigation.

Known for his huge following on social media, the driver had gained popularity for sharing seemingly innocent content about his daily life as a bus driver. His TikTok account, 'Abang Bas,' boasts over 600,000 followers and more than 10.5 million views. The videos, which often featured his passengers, mostly primary and secondary school students, showed them quietly sitting or sleeping in the background as he drove.

Despite the passive interaction between the driver and the students, his content attracted millions of views. However, controversy erupted when certain captions accompanying the videos sparked widespread discomfort. In one video, the man filmed a young girl doing her homework, captioning it, “Today my crush is busy finishing her homework.” In another, he wrote, “Who woke up my love?” while filming a child waking up.

These captions, which appeared to reference minors in a personal and inappropriate manner, drew heavy criticism from netizens. Many accused the driver of crossing ethical boundaries, especially when the children’s faces were clearly visible in the videos.

The online backlash quickly escalated, with viewers tagging government officials, including Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, urging them to take action. Many netizens called for stricter regulations on TikTok content that involves minors, emphasizing the need for authorities to intervene before further harm is done.

The case is now being investigated under Section 15(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 15(2) of the Child Act 2001. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the content posted by the bus driver.
