At the age of 38, Kathiresan Moorthy stands as a beacon of success in the realm of education, having earned recognition as an award-winning primary school teacher. His impressive collection of accolades is an example to his innovative teaching methods, and he goes beyond classroom boundaries by coaching fellow educators. Recently named among the finalists for the Pemimpin GSL's 2023 Malaysia Teacher Prize, Kathiresan's journey to success was far from straightforward.

His educational path faced significant challenges, marked by an initial setback of a 7D grade in his Bahasa Melayu SPM paper in 2002. Undeterred, Kathiresan faced the daunting task of resitting the paper seven times before realizing his dream of becoming a teacher. Despite numerous obstacles and naysayers, he persevered, running a cafeteria at the Kuala Lipis Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) campus to fund his studies. The turning point came with the support of senior teachers and his unyielding determination, culminating in a B+ grade on his seventh attempt.

Kathiresan's commitment to education extends beyond conventional methods. He believes in modifying and improving existing approaches to cater to diverse student needs. Notable among his innovations is the "Tapak Kaki Kathi," a kinesiology teaching aid crafted from recycled materials to enhance students' footwork for netball. His "8 Konstruk Kathi" teaching kit incorporates reading and games, successfully improving basic and advanced skills for students at SK Bukit Ridan in Muadzam Shah.

In his role as a mentor to nearly 400 Pahang school teachers, Kathiresan emphasizes the importance of self-analysis and understanding students' capabilities. He encourages student-centered teaching tailored to diverse backgrounds for effective learning. Alongside his teaching endeavours, Kathiresan dedicates time to coaching and motivating SPM students facing academic challenges.

As Kathiresan continues to inspire and uplift the education landscape, his journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of perseverance, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the pursuit of knowledge.
