This is not the first time Rajinikanth has faced health concerns. In 2020, he was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad due to severe hypertension and exhaustion. After his blood pressure stabilized, he was discharged on December 27 with doctors advising a week of complete rest.

At the time, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, issued a statement: "In view of his post-transplant status, labile hypertension, and age, he requires complete bed rest with regular monitoring of his blood pressure. He has also been advised to avoid activities that could increase the risk of contracting Covid-19."

Rajinikanth had undergone a kidney transplant in 2016 and was tested for Covid-19 in December 2020. Although the test result was negative, he self-isolated as a precaution.
