“I am petrified of the idea of marriage,” Shruti admitted honestly. “I’ve worked so hard my whole life to be my own person. The idea of attaching that to a piece of paper feels really scary to me.” While she emphasized that she values the ideals that marriage is meant to uphold such as loyalty and commitment, she added, “I can do that on my own. I don’t need a piece of paper to validate it.”
Shruti also revealed that she once came close to getting married, but the relationship ended due to incompatibility. “It wasn’t my fault,” she shared candidly. “It was incompatibility. Because marriage isn’t just about two people, it’s about a shared future, potential children, and so many other life decisions. If those foundations don’t align, it’s better to walk away.”
Shruti spoke thoughtfully about her desire for motherhood. “Yes, I have always wanted to be a mother,” she said. However, she clarified that she does not envision raising a child on her own, stating, “I’ve never wanted to be a single mother, because I believe two parents are important for a child.”
She expressed openness to the idea of adoption in the future, highlighting her fascination with the uniqueness of children and the parenting journey. “Children are fascinating,” she added, while also acknowledging and respecting single parents: “Of course, I’m not shaming anyone who is a single parent. That’s not my intent at all.”
At present, Shruti confirms she is single and focusing on her relationship with herself. “I love myself the most now,” she said with quiet confidence. Reflecting on the difference between loneliness and solitude, she pointed out that many people seek relationships to escape being alone.
“How many times do we want a partner because we’re lonely? And how many times do we want them because we have the emotional space to incorporate them as a value addition in our life?” she asked. “What I’m working on is solitude, not calling it loneliness. Being comfortable in my solitude first before getting into that space of partnership.
