Superstar Rajinikanth recently opened up about a pivotal moment that influenced his political stance against the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa. In a heartfelt tribute video remembering former cabinet minister and veteran film producer R.M. Veerappan (widely known as RMV), Rajinikanth recalled an incident from 1995 that left a lasting impact on him.

Speaking about the 100th day celebration of his blockbuster film Baashha, the 74-year-old actor revealed that his remarks during the event unintentionally led to political fallout. At the time, RMV was not only the producer of the film but also a minister in Jayalalithaa’s cabinet. Rajinikanth recounted how he spoke about the rise of "bomb culture" in Tamil Nadu while RMV was present on stage, remarks that were perceived as criticism of the ruling government.

“I shouldn’t have spoken about bomb culture with a minister by my side. I didn’t have clarity back then,” Rajinikanth admitted. “Jayalalithaa removed him from his ministerial position, saying he should have objected to my remarks or walked off stage.”

Rajinikanth shared that he was deeply disturbed by the consequences of his speech and was unable to sleep that night. The next morning, he called RMV to apologise. However, RMV responded with humility and grace, brushing aside the incident and instead inquiring about the film’s shooting schedule. “He acted as if nothing had happened. That incident became a scar I carried,” Rajinikanth said.

Despite Rajinikanth offering to clarify matters with the then Chief Minister, RMV declined, telling him not to risk his own image and that there was no need to attempt reinstatement. “He said Jayalalithaa would not change her decision. That’s why he is a great human being and a real kingmaker,” Rajinikanth reflected.

The actor further noted that while there were many factors behind his political opposition to Jayalalithaa, this particular episode played a significant role in shaping his perspective.

“It’s a wound that never healed. I was the last speaker that day, he couldn’t have responded or stopped me even if he wanted to,” Rajinikanth added, emphasizing the depth of his regret.
