Renowned composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, recently announced their separation in a joint statement. The announcement, which was made earlier this week, coincided with the news of Rahman’s bassist, Mohini Dey, separating from her husband, American saxophonist Mark Hartsuch. This unfortunate timing fueled baseless rumours linking Rahman and Mohini.
In response to the speculation, Saira Banu issued a heartfelt statement defending Rahman, describing him as “a gem of a person” and “the best man in the world.”
In a voice note, Saira clarified the situation and urged the media and public to respect their privacy. She explained that her decision to temporarily step away was due to her health issues, which required her to seek treatment in Mumbai.
“This is Saira Rahman here. I’ve been physically unwell for the last couple of months, and I needed a break. I would request the Tamil media and YouTubers to refrain from saying anything negative about AR. He’s a gem of a person, the best man in the world,” Saira said.
She further elaborated on her decision, stating, “I had to leave Chennai for my treatment as it wasn’t possible with AR’s busy schedule. I didn’t want to disturb anyone; neither him nor our children. This is solely about my health, nothing else.”
Saira dismissed the rumours surrounding Rahman, stating emphatically, “He is an amazing human being, and I trust him with my life. I kindly request everyone to stop the false allegations against him. These claims are absolutely baseless.”
She also emphasized the need for privacy during this challenging time: “We haven’t officially announced anything yet. I will return to Chennai after completing my treatment. I request everyone to give us space and stop tarnishing his name.”
Concluding her statement, Saira reiterated her admiration for Rahman and expressed her desire for peace: “He’s a gem of a person. Please respect our privacy and let us handle this in our own way.”
The couple’s mature handling of the situation highlights their mutual respect for one another, and Saira’s words serve as a reminder to avoid spreading unfounded rumours during sensitive times.
