In Kollywood, child stars have always held a special place, starting with the late actress Sridevi. These young talents, who often debut in ordinary roles and later transition to adult characters, continue to surprise audiences.

Tamil cinema has seen many memorable child stars, among them Akshaya Jayaram, who became well-known for her roles in Amman films. Many people who remember seeing her on TV as a child wonder what happened to her.

In a recent interview with Behindwoods, Akshaya shared interesting details about her life and career. She explained, "I was born and raised in Chennai. I was usually quite shy and not very active in school activities, preferring to stay unnoticed. Even though I was a child star, I only did one film a year. After a few films, I found it difficult to balance acting with school, and my attendance suffered. Despite this, I studied well. Eventually, I had to take a break from acting to focus on my education. For a few years, I lost my desire to return to cinema. Currently, I am working in marketing. After completing my schooling, I pursued a degree in journalism. I worked in journalism and then changed my career after the pandemic."

Akshaya recounted how she got her start in the film industry:

"When I was young, we had many dogs at home. Our vet, Dr. Bhakta, who worked with director Rama Narayanan, showed my photo to him. Rama Narayanan, known for his work with animals in films, gave me an opportunity when I was four years old. I did a screen test for the film 'Rajakaliamman' and ended up acting in 'Palayathu Amman.' I appeared in many Tamil films, including 'Kot Mariamman,' 'Dosth,' 'Rajjiyam,' 'Anjaneya,' 'Manasellam,' and 'Azhagi.'

When asked if she plans to return to acting, Akshaya responded, "I don’t think so. I prefer to cherish those moments rather than thinking about returning to Kollywood. I’m happy with what I’m doing now."
