A Malaysian woman has brought renewed attention to the dangers of passive smoking after sharing her
traumatic health journey on TikTok, revealing that she had to undergo lung drainage procedures four times as a result of second-hand smoke exposure.

In a now-viral 30-second video, TikTok user @VQueenEmpire shared a photo of herself lying in a hospital bed, connected to an oxygen machine. She explained that her condition was not caused by her own lifestyle choices but rather by prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke from those around her.

@sistihah00 Kajian menunjukkan bahawa risiko penyakit jantung dan kanser paru-paru meningkat bagi perokok pasif yang terdedah dalam jangka masa panjang. So beringatlah ya. Saya dah terkena hope korang tak terkena. Sakit tu hanya Allah yang tahu macam mana. Sampai sekarang efek sakit saraf tu masih ada sebab baring terlentang atas katil lama sangat tanpa mengiring kiri atau kanan 🥲 #vape #rokok #bahayarokok #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #storylife ♬ original sound - DNP

“It’s now going viral that some smokers or vape users end up needing lung drainage. But in my case, I went through this procedure because I was a victim of passive smoking,” she said in the video. According to her, she underwent the procedure twice on her left lung in 2017 and again twice on her right lung in 2019.

Despite maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, she believes her health deteriorated due to constant exposure to smokers in her environment. “At that time, vaping was not widespread and few people used it,” she noted, further emphasizing the harmful impact of traditional cigarette smoke on non-smokers. She also issued a heartfelt plea to smokers and vape users:

“Please be cautious. If a life is lost because someone inhales your cigarette smoke or vape vapour, you will be held accountable in the hereafter.”

The video has since garnered over 3 Million views, sparking widespread sympathy and concern. Many commenters expressed support for her and called for stricter enforcement of smoking bans in public spaces to protect non-smokers. The incident has also reignited calls for tighter regulation of electronic cigarettes and vaping products, which have been linked to a range of serious health conditions, including respiratory failure and, in severe cases, death.

As awareness continues to grow about the consequences of passive smoking, the public is urging policymakers to take more decisive action to safeguard the health of all individuals, especially those who have no choice but to be in smoke-filled environments.
