All the money in the world will not be able to replace the loss a 19-year-old from Pahang has suffered.

The teenager had lost the head of his penis in a botched circumcision and took those responsible for his loss to court over their negligence over the procedure, which took place almost a decade ago.

He was awarded RM150,000 by the Kuala Lumpur High Court  in an out-of-court settlement with a government medical assistant at the Kuala Lipis hospital, one of the six defendants the victim had sued.

The victim’s lawyer, Mohamad Zainuddin Abu Bakar, said the defendant had asked to pay in RM2,500 monthly instalments for five years, but rejected the request.

Here’s the tragic story of how the teenager lost the business end of his manhood. In December 2010, when he was only 10, he underwent a circumcision. But the medical assistant who carried it out cut off the entire penis head instead of only the foreskin.

The medical assistant later tried to stitch back the severed part, but did not do it according to procedures, the victim’s mother said.

To make matters worse, the medical officer (MO) at the hospital did not give the boy immediate treatment after this horrifying accident happened. The MO also hid the fact that the child’s penis head had been cut off, from his family.

The boy was later sent to Selayang Hospital to get his penis head reattached but despite the huge sum the mother claimed she had paid, the boy’s penis remained headless. She was apparently told by the a specialist at Selayang Hospital that it would grow back as the boy got older, but it never did.

Besides suffering a permanent disablement, the injury also mentally affected the boy; he became quiet and now only makes friends with small children.

Besides suing the medical assistant, the boy and his family have also taken five other people to court – the medical officer and director at the Kuala Lipis Hospital, the specialist and director of the Selayang Hospital, and the government.

Claiming to have forked out more than RM100,000 in treatment and other costs over the years, the mother is seeking general and special damages, as well as interest and other costs which the court deems fit.
