Malaysia's Covid-19 cases have been increasing drastically and as of 19th March, about 900 citizens have been tested positive for the deadly virus.

Due to the increasing number, the government has implemented the Movement Contro Order (MCO) to contain the spreading, from 18th to 31st March.

In regards to this, the annual Panguni Uthiram festival at the 129-year old Sri Marathandavar Aalayam, Pahang has been called-off.

The festival devoted to Lord Murugan was originally scheduled on the 6th and 7th April and was foreseen to receive about 450,000 devotees and tourists. However, the celebration needs to be canceled to prevent the virus from spreading further.

The temple presidents G. Ramakrishnan further clarifies that such religious festivals can't be postponed to another date, and the authorities only allow 10 people to gather inside the temple premises.

"The priest will conduct the prayers at the scheduled time and date, but the devotees will not be allowed to participate," he said.
