Minister: Blood Donors Will Be Allowed To Donate Blood During MCO

  • 27 Apr 2020

The government will allow blood donors to donate blood, during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

According to senior minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the decision was taken in a special cabinet meeting today, as the National Blood Centre's supply had dropped by 33% since the start of the MCO.

Hence, legitimate blood donors will be allowed to do so at hospitals and public health clinics from 10am to 10pm, and they will be required to carry their donor card or appointment slip.

Those who wish to know more details can call the National Blood Bank at 03-2613-2688 or send them an email at

The fourth phase of the MCO, which was enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19, ends on May 12.

Last month, the National Blood Centre had urged donors to come forward to donate blood to cope with dwindling reserves.

In a series of Facebook posts, the centre had also assured that there is no risk of corona virus transmission in the process of donating, or receiving blood.

The centre also provided a list of do's and don'ts for potential donors to observe amid the health crisis.

As of yesterday, COVID-19 has affected 5,780 people in the country, and killed 98.

Globally, the disease has infected more than 2.9 million people, and over 207,000 people have died from it.
